So. I was feeling productive at work the other day so I decided to do a little self-promotion for my trip. I emailed the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's newstips hotline with my story and I also sent it to Creative Loafing. I thought it might be nice to get a little publicity and maybe get a few donations out of anything I could get.
By the end of the day I had heard back from the assignment editor, Alicia, at Creative Loafing who said that my story sounded amazing and that had forwarded it on to one particular reporter, Scott Freeman, because she thought it sounded right up his alley. Woot!
Just now, I spoke with Gracie Bonds Staples from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution who is coming to my home to interview me at 8am next Thursday for a story! Aieeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
I am so very excited right now!! Things are looking up! I really hope that these stories come out good because my fundraising is really not going that great. I'm only about 1/4 of the way to my goal... and it's due in July.
Fundraising ideas:
30th Birthday Party $30 Fundraiser (instead of presents, people give a donation of $30 to the GVN Foundation for me)
Saving coins (already doing this, I have $15 so far)
An event of some sort?
Selling something I make (cookies? not sure)
Letter to New Balance (already sent - I asked them to donate because I wear their shoes to train!)
Wish me luck folks... It would be amazing if I just had a crazy windfall of some generous person but I don't think it's gonna happen. :D

Corporations will usually give you something if you wear a logo on the back of your shirt or in your case sewn on your jacket. You could mention the news coverage and mention them as a sponsor.
Also, for anyone who donates, most large companies have the dollar for dollar matching program. For every dollar an employee donates to an approved org, they'll match it.
